During an evaluation in 2005 at Charlton Court (see linked record), the remains of an 'enigmatic stone structure' were recorded (Report not currently held by KCC, summary appears in the later excavation report below).

Excavation work to investigate this structure in 2006 recorded two significant structures. The first was the foundation for a boundary wall, recorded to a length of 14.6m, running north-south. The foundations were 72 cm wide and 32 cm deep and constructed of ragstone. Sherds found among the stones in the trench suggested a medieval date. The wall was seen to continue out of the excavation area to the north and had been robbed out.

The second feature was a stone lined drain. The drain was seen in two sections, one running north-east to south-west and one running southwards after a junction (with a small extension to the north) and terminating in a sump, also stone lined (this drain was fed from the north east beyond the limit of excavation). It was stone lined and stone capped and set within a cut 77 cm wide and 25 cm deep. It also contained medieval pottery within its fill. (1)
