A Second World War roadblock is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1942. The road block is located at the western end of Sandgate Esplanade, which is defined by removable road blocks, possibly a hedgehog or hairpin arrangement, and other concrete structures at the side of the road. The road block was subsequently cleared after the war.

A Second World War roadblock is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1942 and has been mapped as part of the South East Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey NMP. The road block is located at the western end of Sandgate Esplanade at TR 19146 34904, and is defined by removable road blocks, possibly a hedgehog or hairpin arrangement and other concrete structures at the side of the road. The road block was subsequently cleared after the war. (1)
