WWII military feature comprising a large sub-oval pit (measuring 20.2m by 8.5m) beside 15 circular pits that appear to be aligned in rows (with an average diameter of 2.5m). These features are thought to be a mine laying training area due to the alignment of the pits (similar to that seen in minefields on beaches - see MWX43270). These features are situated in the corner of a field north of Deal and have been mapped from military aerial photographs taken in February 1946 [1]. They are first visible in June 1942 [2] and are gone by April 1950 [3].
A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photographs exists within a GIS layer held by this HER.
