Summary

Roman features, dating from the 1st century AD, cut by later medieval pits. A deep dump of deposits relating to the supposed Roman defensive wall were found sealing these. A number of finds were recovered, including pottery and four coins, but their date is uncertain. Mnay of the features were covered by soil deposits of Roman date. A trial pit did identify the wall but was uanble to extensively excavate.

Two trial pits were dug exposing a number of features. In both trial pits shallow Roman features, 1stC A.D, were cut by later Med pits. In trial pit A an extensive to this pit located the top of the masonary Town Wall which was not examined. Also found sealing the 1st C depoisted was a deep dump of deposits relating to the supposed Roman defensive wall at this point. A number of finds were recovered, pottery and 4 coins, but the report does not give any details about these other than one of the coins was 'Ancient British'. No detailed site location map was included either. (KCC1990/27)
