During excavations associated with works on the York Street bypass in 1971, in an area just to the north of the Durham Hill North site and just to the south of the northern wall of the CLBR fort, fragments of four clay water pipes were located.
The pipes formed a line which ran for a total of 2.05m east-west, roughly parallel to and 3m south of the northern fort wall. They all were situated in a shallow U shaped trench, 16cm wide and 20cm deep. (1)
