North Foreland Signal Station was built by Lloyd's on land near North Foreland Lighthouse in 1901 however a semaphore signal station appears on the 1st Edition OS maps dating from 1862 and it may be dated to an earlier period as a flagstaff stood nearby. The station was taken over by the Post Office in 1909 and passed to the military during the First World War. The station is shown on the 'Britain From Above' photographs from 1920 with a single mast and a pitched roof wireless station adjacent to it. This appears to be seperated into three connected blocks with a timber framed block to the west and two probable brick structures to the east. (1)
The site has been developed for residential use post war and it is therefore unlikely that any evidence of the wireless station remains although it is possible that some elements have been retained within the gardens along North Foreland Road. There may be some potential for survival of below-ground archaeology. (1)
