In June 1962 a hoard of Late Roman silver and a small amount of gold was found in Canterbury by workmen constructing a new road. The find spot was just outside the city wall, 70 feet south-west of the London Gate. The finds, some of which were stamped with chi-rho monograms, included 2 silver ingots; 11 silver spoons; one silver implement; one gold ring; one gold hook and eye; one silver pin with a green glass head and 8 coins (the coins however may not be part of the actual hoard which had been split up and subsequently recovered from various sources by F. Jenkins working with the Police The date of the hoard falls between the very late 4th or early 5th centuries AD.
