Pleistocene deposits rich in diverse palaeo-environmental remains in old Wear Farm Pit, Chislet, in field "Ware/Bells" to east of Church Lane. Deposit sequence is fluvial at the base (rich in small vertebrates, molluscs and ostracods), then overlain by brickearth thought most likely to be of colluvial origin. First investigated by Prestwich (1), then described by Evans (2). Later re-investigated in mid-1990s (3), and then further investigations in 2013 and 2014 for Stour Palaeolithic Project (4, 5).
