The area was surveyed as part of the South Blean Woods Landscape History Project. A map of 1602 shows the area as being Cobbes Wood and the presence of a building called The Tilehouse. The building is not shown on a revised map of 1714. The quarry pits in the area could have been dug for the extraction of clay for tile making. Peg tile fragments were found in tree throws in the area during the survey. (1)
