In 2008 Canterbury Archaeological Trust carried out a watching brief and excavation. An Anglo-Saxon cemetery was found. It was used between the mid 6th and 8th century AD. A total of 228 graves were found, including some within penannular ditches. Finds included shield bosses, knives, swords, spearheads, dress accessories, personal equipment and two glass beakers. Two cremations were also found, one of which was apparently included as a grave good in an inhumation burial. (1)
