Summary

A Bronze Age ditched ditched enclosure was found on the foreshore at St. Mildred's Bay. Finds from the site included a bronze palstave hoard in a bark container and Deverel Rimbury type pottery sherds. The pastave hoard was dated by type to c.1300-1200 BC. The overall pottery scatter dated to c600 BC. At least one late Neolithic/Bronze Age flint scraper has also been found (see TR 37 SW 1000). A further feature at the site was found to contain Belgic/Romano-British pottery (see TR 37 SW 1018). The site is being monitored as it is in the process of destruction by natural and human agency.

TR 3275 7050 Bronze Age, Iron Age and Romano-British features and finds. E-LBA ditched enclosure with Deverel Rimbury type sherds and a bronze palstave hoard in bark container;
While one inshore feature contains sherds of Belgic/Romano-British pottery, (TR 37 SW 1018), overall pottery scatter from the site can be dated to c600 BC. A bronze hoard of 10 palstave axes exhibit styles current c1200 BC-1300 BC. (3). At least one late Neolithic/Bronze Age flint scraper has also been found. (TR 37 SW 1000) See illustration card. (1). Site being monitored by Thanet Soc/Trust and is in process of destruction by natural and human agency, despite SSSI status. Stream bed is full of timber and structural remains and man-made features, with earliest furthest from shore. Earlier and later remains recorded as separate monuments.
