Mr C. Newington stated that a Roman cremation in a cinerary urn with two small vases and two Samian pateral was found c.1908-10 when laying a water main along the Dover-Richborough Roman road between Studdal and Maidensale Farm. (1) The Mid-Kent Water Company were contacted at their local office at Whitfield but the relevant plan carries no record of this discovery, and the Company is not able to offer any further information. Enquiries at Dover Museum were negative. The pottery is in the Deal Town Hall Collection. (2) Roman cremation burial. In about 1908 a cremation burial consisting of a cinerary urn of brown ware 8 inches in height, 10 inches in diameter, with two Samian saucers and two small vases was found between Studdal (TR 312491) and Maidensole Farm (TR 316476) along the Dover to Richborough road.
