Summary

Early-medieval/ Anglo-Saxon grave with grave goods. These included a silver-inlaid sword pommel, 2 sheild bosses and a Frankish pottery bottle. A kdney shaped bronze weight was found in the vicinity of Grove Ferry. The finds form part of the Copeland Collection in Canterbury Museum, accession numbers RM 861 and 1975,6.

Anglo-Saxon antiquities from Grove Ferry exhibited by A.J. Copeland in 1894 and 1896:- Sword pommel. Two iron shield umbos. Bronze weight. (1) The majority of the Copeland Collection is in store at the Royal Museum, Canterbury; the items listed above were not on exhibition and were not traced in the Accessions Register. The following items from the Copeland Collection also come from Grove Ferry but no details of date or circumstances of finding are known:- (i) A wheel-made Jutish bottle, Acc. No. RM 861. (ii) Two Saxon necklaces, Acc. Nos. RM 1975, 6. (2) Additional bibliography. (3)
