In 1947, F. Jenkins and J. Boyle excavated a pit in the cliff face at Reculver (`A': TR 22436928) which contained late 2nd/3rd century pottery, a penannular brooch, a brass coin of Marcus Aurelius and another of Septimus Severus. The pits were destroyed by coastal erosion in 1953; all the finds including the figurine have been presented to the Royal Museum, Canterbury (1).
