TR 273694. Medieval pottery. When the storm beach is scoured away by winter gales the residual areas of Thanet Beds are exposed yielding medieval pot sherds. A few metres further seaward the wave cut shelf of upper chalk is seen to be pierced by well shafts filled with light brown loam in which sherds of sand tempered pottery (Canterbury sandy ware) can be found (1). For site in context with others in inter-tidal zone, see (2,3) and site photograph (4).
