Summary

Herne Windmill was built in 1781 to replace a 16th century post mill which had stood on the same site, overlooking Herne village. It is a Grade I listed property and an early type of smock mill. The mill was purchased in 1984 by Kent County Council and opened to the public in 1986. It was restored to working order in 1999.
