Much plain Samian, dredged from the Thames estuary off Whitstable and Herne Bay, particularly at Pudding Pan Rock, [TR 1774 approx.] is regarded as salvage from the wreck of a boat carrying Lezoux pottery from Gaul to Britain about 160 A.D. (1) Samian is still being dredged up from Pudding Pan Rock and being sold to Mr. Bob Anderson and others of Whitstable. (a) Herne Bay Museum holds 17 pieces and Mr. Wallace C. Harvey (councillor and local historian) of 53 Oxford Street, Whitstable, has a representative selection in his possession. The town council have in store about 200 pieces, from which a selection will be exhibited in a museum shortly to be erected in Whitstable. (b) (2)
