According to the source and historical documents Mote Place stood on the south bank of the river Len. In the 14th century the manor was given a licence to crenellate and 'imparked', it is said to be one of the earliest deer parks (1). According to the Canterbury Archaeological Trust (2) the manor is known to have been moated. This source also postulates that the site of the house is now covered by the substantial lake built in the 19th century. (2)
