There was a Second World War roadblock on Bekesbourne Lane, near its junction with the Littlebourne Road. This was road block No. 21 in a list of permanent road blocks in the 43 Divisional area at the end of November 1940. In late April 1941 a flame trap or (more likely) fougasse was proposed to be installed at this roadblock; it is not yet clear whether this was installed.
