By late 1940 there was a roadblock at the road bridge over the London, Chatham, Dover Railway. The railway, at this point, formed part of the Dover, Canterbury, Whitstable Stop Line. A pair of large concrete blocks can be seen, flanking the north end of the bridge, on immediate post-war aerial photographs. This was road block No. 29 in a list of permanent road blocks in the 43 Divisional area at the end of November 1940.
