There was a Second World War emplacement for a mobile six-pounder anti-tank gun, beside the Sturry Road, near the waste water treatment works. It had been established by mid April 1941, and will have guarded against attack from the north-east along Sturry Road. The gun was usually kept at the Battery HQ at The Rowans on Ethelbert Road, to be brought out on command. The Military Grid Reference of the emplacement was R 608775. Is it just possible this might have been at the pillbox in the vicinity?
