There was a Second World War Anti-tank gun emplacement south of the Thanet Way near Grays Farm. This was one of two such emplacements, operated at the end of October 1941 by 300 Battery of the 57th Anti-tank Regiment Royal Artillery, These covered two nearby roadblocks at Bridges on the Thanet Way - preventing ‘penetration along [the] Margate to Herne Bay road’.
