There was a Second World War roadblock at a Farm bridge on Snake Drove on the Chislet Marshes. This was one of numerous bridges known collectively as the ‘Thanet Bridges’ – along a defensive Grid Line based on the Rivers Wantsum and Stour. The roadblock formed part of the Grid Line defences. Early in 1940 the bridge was prepared for demolition in the event of an invasion. Charges were laid but detonators and firing circuits were only to be placed on ‘Action Stations.’
