From mid 1940 there was a Second World War roadblock on Rough Common Road, where the Dover, Canterbury, Whitstable Stop Line (Sector 'E' see separate entry) crossed it. To the east the stop-line comprised anti-tank ditch; to the west, Church Wood provided the obstacle. One large concrete block survives from the roadblock, on the latter side, just inside the wood, concealed within a clump of hollies. This was roadblock No. 34 in a list of such structures made 2 December 1940.
