From mid 1940 there was a roadblock on the road from Canterbury to Dover. From an early date, perhaps from the outset, it was covered from a pillbox at the north-west corner of Charlton Park. This was clearly an outlying defence on the approach to Canterbury. This was roadblock No. 67 in a list of such structures made 2 December 1940.
