From about 1940 there was a Second World War Anti-Tank Gun emplacement in the vicinity of Bekesbourne Hill, Bekesbourne. It was operated along with two similar guns at either end of Bekesbourne Airfield, Ickham. Around the end of June 1941 these were transferred to defend beaches near Deal. It may have covered a roadblock under the Bekesbourne Lane viaduct to the south.
