There was a Second World War pillbox overlooking a roadblock at the former crossroads of what is now the Thanet Way and Canterbury Road, in Eddington. (The wartime road layout has since been thoroughly altered.) This was pillbox No.8 in the 1940 list of pillboxes in East Kent (2 December); it was in Sector 7 of the area, at the stated Military Grid reference R 623850.
