From mid May 1940, ‘Z’ Company of the 8 Royal Fusiliers occupied the house called ‘Avonleigh’ on Parsonage Road. They will immediately have begun digging slit-trenches in the vicinity. The 8 Royal Fusiliers left the district in November. Any subsequent use of the house is as yet unclear.
