A beacon is shown on the Isle of Harty (see Illustration card) on William Lambarde's "Carde" of c. 1570 showing 52 beacons in Kent. They dropped out of use after 1640. (1) Not identified on the ground but most probably sited at or near the 18th/19th century Telegraph Station at TR 0178 6734 (2) or see monument TR 06 NW 1002 (3). Additional reference (4).
