Summary
In 1828 a collection of antiquities found at Smeeth, Kent, was presented to the Canterbury Literary Institute. Amongst the recovered artefacts were a spearhead, parts of a sword, a dirk, a copper culinery utensil, a crystal boss or bulla with portions of a silver chain with which it had been suspended, a ring of twisted silver wire, a copper brooch, a button or fibula for confining the toga, a coloured earthen bead, and portions of buckles and ornaments used on girdles. Due to identification as both Roman and early medieval artefacts the dating of these objects is unknown.
