Summary

Grade II listed building. Main construction periods 1300 to 1966 A former chapel of St Nicholas' is located near Thorne Farm in Minster parish. This monument dates to the 14th century and has 19th century alterations when it was converted into a house. It is grade II listed and is thought to be in good condition. The structure was originally built as a private chapel to Thorne Manor. This house was demolished in the 19th century and the chapel was subsequently converted into a house. It is thought that none of the internal features of the chapel now survive.

Description from record TR 36 SW 7:
[TR 3341 6497] Chapel [NR] (1) The chapel of St Nicholas to the NE of Thorne, Minster parish, is C14th altered in the C19th. (2-3) Chapel house, a private residence, incorporates knapped flint walls which contain a C14th traceried window in the E side (see GP/AO/63/127/5). The interior is entirely of the C19th. The structure is in good condition. (4) Chapel House. Thorne Hill (E side), Minster. Grade II. Chapel, now house. C14 and converted into house mid C19. Squared and coursed flints and plain tiled roof, with rear wings of brown brick and plain tiled roofs. Originally the chapel was built on an undercroft, now 2 storeys, garret and basement, with single stage buttresses. Liturgical N wall with 2 blocked arches and 2 shouldered lights at basement level. Liturgical E wall with head of E window, a quatrefoil over 2 ogee-headed lights. Otherwise two C19 2 light mullioned windows on each floor, with C19 chamfered doorways to basement and ground floor and boarded doors. C19 and mid C20 brick extensions to rear. No internal features sruvive. Built as private chapel to Thorne Manor (demolished C19). (5) Thorne, a chapel built of knapped flint, on an undercroft converted into a cottage in the C19. The chapel seems to have been orientated N-S. Head of a two light E window with tracery. (6) TR 334 650. Ruins of medieval chapel incorporated into modern secularbuilding. (7)
