Summary

A suspected burial mound was formerly located in the orchard at the back of Champion Court, Newnham. It was investigated in 1825 and was found to contain small pieces of iron and broken pieces of Roman(?) pottery. There is no longer any trace of this mound.

[TQ 955580] In the orchard at the back of Champion Court, Newnham, about 100 yards north of the windmill site, [see TQ 95 NE 6] a tumulus, opened by F A Crow in 1825, contained small pieces of iron and broken pieces of Roman (?) pottery. (1) Nothing remains of this feature which was sited upon the top of a hill. (2)
