Monument details

HER Number:TQ 94 NW 24
Type of record:Monument
Name:Deserted medieval village (doubtful), Pivington

Summary

Pivington is listed as a deserted medieval village in Maurice Beresford and John G. Hurst eds. 'Deserted Medieval Villages', 1971. This study lists 69 places for Kent in their county gazetteer of deserted medieval villages. In most cases there is nothing to prove that there ever was a village at the site in question. A deserted church site or isolated church certainly does not prove the existence of a deserted village.
