A Gallo-Belgic gold stater (see illustration card) was found lying on the surface of the mud in the Medway Marshes, during work by the Upchurch Archaeological Research Group, in spring 1967. It is the only recorded coin of this type from the Medway Marshes at Upchurch and the earliest pre-Roman coin recorded from the marshes. It has been deposited in Maidstone Museum.
