TQ 8537 7232 Three late C1st/C2nd Romano-British pots, one with a cremation, found 27.4.1962 by Mr G. Pattison, partly on the foreshore and partly in the small cliff above, on Burntwick Island at Sharpness Saltings. Mr Pattison, who retains the finds, was only able to indicate the approximate area of the find and there is nothing visible to show the exact site. (1) (a-c) From this area, 1947, a Mr Darling found a funeral deposit comprising a cinerary urn, 2 flasks, a terracotta dish not later than 123 AD and a Form 31 patera (SABINVS). All the finds were retained by Darling, a former dockyard worker who cannot now be traced (2) (d). Additional index entries and references from relevant field reports (3-8). Occasional 2nd century cremations wash out from cliff face (9). No visible remains in 2004. (10)
