[TQ 8595 7036] Roman jewellery found 1864 [NAT] (1) About 1864 an urn was found on Slay Hill Saltings containing a silver armilla, two silver finger rings with red carnelian intaglios, two brass coins of Crispina and Antoninus Pius, silver coins of Nero (1), Vespasian (2), Domitian (1), Trajan (3), Hadrian (2), Antoninus Pius (2), Aurelius (2) and Faustina Junior (2) and a Greek coin. In the possession of Mr Humphrey Wickham of Strood. (2) Finds included a hinged silver torc, the decorated buffer-shaped terminals of another and two late C2 silver rings. The coins fix the date of deposit to c AD 180. Finds, except coins, now in the BM. (3) There is no evidence in the authorities quoted for distinguishing between the citing given for this hoard and a similar one found in the same marsh at an unknown date (qv TQ 87 SE 14) (4).
