South Central entrance Tower to Penshurst Place, and Wall abutting to East. TQ 5243 23/788

2. Battlemented square sandstone tower of circa 1400. Blocked square C17 or early C18 window on 1st floor. Slit windows flank C17 round arched doorway. Stretch of stone-battlemented brick wall to East. Penshurst Place, the South Central Tower and Wall, the Southern Wall, the Inner Garden Wall and the Garden Wall form a group. TQ 527349 Tower, wall, gatehouse and gateway to Penshurst Place. 5280 PENSHURST PENSHURST South Central entrance Tower to Penshurst Place, and Wall abutting to East. TQ 5243 23/788 I GV 2. Battlemented square sandstone tower of circa 1400. Blocked square C17 or early C18 window on 1st floor. Slit windows flank C17 round arched doorway. Stretch of stone-battlemented brick wall to East. Penshurst Place, the South Central Tower and Wall, the Southern Wall, the Inner Garden Wall and the Garden Wall form a group. (2) License to crenellate, granted in 1392 (following an earlier license of 1341) lead to the construction of an enclosing outer wall with square side and angle towers. Only the South central gate tower survives complete, and a stretch of wall. (3)
