LENHAM THE SQUARE TQ 8952 (west side)
10/230 R.B.House and hand- rails attached 26.4.68. (Formerly listed as Stanfield House) GV II
House, now offices. Early C19. Described in former List as C15 building refaced in early C19. Rendered brick with plain tile roof. Double depth. 3 storeys and semi-basement on plinth, with plain wood eaves cornice. Front and rear sections have separate hipped roofs. Large red brick ridge stack to right of centre of each section and very small brick stack to left end between sections. Regular 3-window front of recessed glazing-bar sashes, ground and first floor windows with single Soanian line over. Reeded architrave with semi-circular head, up 4 steps withiron hand-rails, between left and central windows, containing recessed door of 6 fielded panels with semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing bars. Blocked door between left window and left end. Interior: C19 features. Some walls said to be studded.

The house was used as a Voluntary Aid Detachment hospital by VAD Kent/134 from May 1915 -December 1918, with 35 beds.
