`A' TQ 8848 5690: `B' TQ 8821 5671: `C' TQ 8735 5636: `D' TQ 8709 5676: `E' TQ 8689 5636: `F' TQ 8656 5638: Old Shaft [NAT] [6 times] `G' TQ 8630 5643: `H' TQ 8633 5646: Old Shafts [NAT] (1) A string of deneholes stretches across the parish of Wormshill along the top of the North Downs. They are sunk through clay-with-flints `A' Open, shaft 2.0m in diameter. Bottom not seen. Good condition. `B' Open, 4-chambered. Shaft 2.0-2.5m in diameter. Very good condition. `C' Shaft blocked with rubbish at bottom of small circular depression. Poor condition. `D' Shaft partly blocked with rubbish. Fair condition. `E' Shaft filled to within 3.0m of ground level. Poor condition. `F' Under standing corn. Not visited. (See below) `G' and `H' Under standing corn. Not visited. (See below) Published 25" surveys revised. (2) `F' In the area centred at TQ 86545624 there are four groups of collapsed deneholes comprising between two and four shafts in each group. They are all tree-grown and attempts have been made to fill them with bales of straw. `G' This collapsed denehole has been ploughed over and filled to level with bales of straw. `H' A collapsed denehole, very overgrown and partially filled with bales of straw. Surveyed at 1/2500 (3) G and H both destroyed. (4) One pair of deneholes (`F' at TQ 86585609) has been infilled and the area is under plough. The majority of the holes are fenced and vegetation covered but a number look quite fresh - presumably where the sides have fallen in. (5)
