Summary

Grade II listed building. Main construction periods 1500 to 1799. Gateway and garden wall of East Court with an attached mounting block. The gateway dates to the 16th century and is constructed from red brick. It has a moulded 4-centred arched architrave in a square-headed frame. The wall is of 18th century date and is constructed from flint on galleted stone with a brick-coped plinth. To the right of the gate is a stone mounting block of three steps parallel to the wall. Listed Grade II.

Description from record TQ 75 NE 53:
[TQ 7933 5835] East Court (NR) (Site of) (NAT) [TQ 7932 5834] Gateway (NR) (Rems of) (NAT) (1) East Court, Detling, stood to the south-west of the present c.1840 house. The Tudor red brick four-centred archway remains. (2) Description correct. No trace remains of East Court, the site is occupied by a stock enclosure. See G.P. AO/64/118/1, Gateway from S.E. (3) TQ 793584. Tudor gateway, mounting stone and wall. Scheduled No. 331. (4) Gateway and garden wall of East Court, with mounting block attached,. Grade II. Gateway 16 c, wall 18 c. (5) Additional bibliography. (6) Descheduled 12.1.98 (7)

Gateway, wall and mounting block. Gateway C16, wall C18. Gateway: red brick. Moulded 4-centred arched architrave in square-headed frame with hood-mould over. Plain shaped gable above. Wall: flint on galletted stone, brick-coped plinth, coped in brick with dentilled brick cornice. Stands to height of about 7 feet, extending 1½ yards to left and about 12 yards to right of gateway. Mounting block: to right of gate. Stone, with 3 steps parallel to wall. Listing NGR: TQ7937558303 (9)
