Summary

Romano-British cremations, found during sea-walling operations in 1912 at Hoo Ness by Gillingham Reach. The cremations were found below the level of the marshes, and consisted of cinerary urns, vases and a few paterae of pseudo-Samian. Pottery from this site is now in Maidstone Museum. The findspot should be considered as approximate only.

[TQ 78247015] R-B interments found 1912. (1) During sea-walling operations in 1912 on the river front, c. 1 mile SW of Hoo church and bounded by Short Reach on the west and Gillingham Reach on the south, Roman interments were met with c. 4' below the level of the marshes, consisting of cinerary urns, vases and a few paterae of pseudo-Samian. (2) [Add. Ref.] (3) Pottery from this site is now in Maidstone Museum (4) The evidence for siting by Mr. Fisher, now deceased, [authority 1] is not known.
