Summary

A mound feature at Bromhey Farm, was investigated in 1928. Amongst the finds were fragments of briquetage and Iron Age pottery, including two sherds identified as La Tene type and others, possibly, of Halstatt ware. More recent photographs of the site have identified kiln remains.

Protected Status:Selected Heritage Inventory for Natural England: Roman settlement and Roman kilns. Four beehive kilns and Roman pottery sherds were discovered at Bromhey Farm in the early 20th century during an excavation by the landowner.

[TQ 7647 7661] (1) A low mound of loose friable soil, on the edge of the marsh at Bromley Farm, was sectioned by Jessup and N.C. Cook in 1928. They found many fragments of briquetage and Iron Age pottery, including two sherds of La Tene type and others, possibly, of Halstatt (2). Probably Red Hill (3).
