Summary

Early 19th century country house, it is believed, and estate purchased by the London County Council for the establishment of a new mental hospital built in the grounds. The old Mansion house became the Medical Superintendent's House. The house later became derelict. It has now been developed into apartments as part of a housing development. The house externally has a Grecian style pair of recessed Ionic colums flanking the central entrance. The house was leased by Harim Maxim, inventor of the Maxim machine gun, between 1889 (or 1891) and 1898.
