In the grounds of Abbey Farm, (centred TQ 758587) a tile-kiln built of broken tiles was found by workmen. It is probably associated with the Abbey, half a mile distant. It contained a large pan with traces of metals. Some of the tiles were glazed and other had encaustic designs. Some were incribed 'Guillelmus De Dudis Me Fecit'. Finds are in Maidstone Museum. (1) Sir John Best-Shaw, owner of Boxley Abbey, stated that Abbey Gate is also known as Abbey Farm, but he knows nothing of the find made about 1928. Enquiries made at the farm were negative, as the tenant, Mr. Richardson, came to the farm long after 1928. (2) The finds are still in Maidstone Museum. (3) Additional bibliography. (4)
