Together with the batteries at Fan Bay and South Foreland, Wanstone covered the sea between Dunkirk and Boulogne and brought counter-battery fire on German shipping and guns across the Channel. The battery was begun in March 1941 and armed with 2 x 15" guns previously destined for Singapore, nicknamed Clem and Jane. The battery was disbanded in 1957.

Together with the batteries at Fan Bay and South Foreland, Wanstone covered the sea between Dunkirk and Boulogne and brought counter-battery fire on German shipping and guns across the Channel. The battery was begun in March 1941 and armed with 2 x 15" guns previously destined for Singapore. The battery was disbanded in 1957. Each gun emplacement had a pair of identical bomb-proof magazines. No.1 gun "Jane TR3516143227 was to the west of Wanstone Farm, No.2 gun "Clem" TR3546843393 to the south of the farm. Associated structures, many of wich still remain, were sited in and around the farm.
