Summary

A chalk pit was formerly located at the Cliffsend railway crossing. It is marked on the Ordnance Survey 1st and 2nd edition maps (c.1858-1898) as 'Old Chalk Pit'. The outline is still visible on the 3rd and 4th edition maps (c.1905-1940).

Chalk pit located on 1st ed OS 6" 1872 map, and 2nd ed map, sheet 37. Boundary marked on 3rd ed 1908 map. Disused by 1930s revised ed. (1)

The edge of the quarry was located during an evaluation in 2002. (2)
