Monument details

HER Number:TR 26 NE 222
Type of record:Monument
Name:Perkins chalk pit, Sarre

Summary

The remains of a post-medieval chalk pit are located near the anglo-Saxon burial ground in Sarre. Known as the Perkins chalk pit, the pit itself and a limekiln are marked on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition map of c.1861. Despite its outline being still visible the kiln and pit are no longer denoted on the Ordnance Survey 2nd edition of c.1895 which seems to suggest they were no longer in use at this time.
