A disused chalk pit is located at Belle Isle near St. Nicholas at Wade. It is marked on the c.1861 1st edition Ordnance Survey map as 'Chalk Pit', and again on the c.1896 2nd edition as 'Old Chalk Pit'. The pit boundary is still visible at the site.
