Summary
A post medieval chalk pit was located near Monkton roundabout to the north of the village. This site is marked on the 1st and 2nd Ordnance Survey maps as 'Old chalk Pit' indicating that it had fallen out of use before c.1861 when the 1st edition was released. The boundary of the site is depicted on the 3rd and 4th edition Ordnance Survey maps. It is now marked by a small area wooded area on the edge of the field boundary.
