Monument details

HER Number:TR 26 NE 217
Type of record:Monument
Name:Sarre chalk pit

Summary

A post-medieval chalk pit was located at Sarre. The monument is marked on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition map of c.1861, however on the 2nd edition map of c.1895 it is depicted as 'Old Chalk Pit'. This evidence appears to suggest that the site went out of use between the release of these two maps. This follows the trend for the area and a number of other pits are known to have been in use at a similar time in the region.
